I love driving a manual transmission, and cars with the right mileage, etc etc with manual transmissions are getting harder and harder to find. So, even though I live in Maryland, when I found the 2012 VW Beetle listed from J&M I jumped on it. Took a train to Connecticut and bought it there. Amy Smith was my sales person and she was (and still is) an amazing, friendly help.
We had a few hiccups along the way mostly related to my distance from home, etc etc but Amy and J&M bent over backwards to do right by me. They went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied and left happy. If they were closer to home, I would recommend them to anybody/everybody, and if in the future they happen to have a car I can't find closer to home, I'd definitely use them again. Thanks Amy and J&M!

My experience at j&m today was amazing to say the least! I have been shopping around for a newer truck for work. My family has had good experience working with Bob in the past, so he was our first choice when it came time to seek out a friendly, patient and knowledgeable salesperson. Bob, spent time walking around the lot with me, listening to my preferences.
What I liked best was, I felt no pressure from Bob to purchase something I didn't want or need. We went to see a completely different car than what we purchased and we didn't even expect to make a purchase the same day. Bob even sat in the car we saw online to see if my partner would fit in it as they are more or less the same height. Bob was patient and kind and very informative as my partner and I had a lot of questions. He showed us a few cars and one caught our eye in the lot and he let us take it for a spin. It was love at first drive! Al took care of the financials and helped us find a great financing option. They were great! Totally recommend!

This is the second car we purchased at J and M and had excellent experiences both times. They are knowledgeable and professional. We purchased a 2008 Toyota RAV4 in July 2021. The car had an average amount of miles on it for a 2008 model. After a few months of owning the car, we started to have some oil consumption issues. We took the car to a mechanic and began our routine of changing the oil every few hundred miles. The oil issue did it's damage and now the car is dead - the engine is destroyed and we're in a tough spot given the current market.
We paid $8K for a used car that lasted 7 months and we're truly disappointed. We called J&M to explain our car loss and received no sympathy. Please do your due diligence in your car search - J&M was kind to us during the search but the folks there are salespeople and are by no means car experts or mechanics. They will "service" the car before you drive it off the lot but they DO NOT do any engine work or inspection.

My wife's 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe needed service done 40 days after purchase. We had it towed to J & M. They promptly got the car into service, stood by their 60 day warranty and took care of everything. They had the car warming up on a very chilly morning when I arrived to pick it up. Rich in service was very communicative and kind when discussing what service the car needed. We thought our car buying process was easy. service repair was even easier! We will highly recommend J & M to everyone we know.

Went in looking and was taken in right away. Explained the situation and Mike knew exactly what to do! He was knowledgeable and understanding. Felt a positive vibe and that's the first time ever with a sales person at any dealership I've been to in the past. We seen what we wanted we told him and test drove all within a hour of being there. So I just picked up my new car LR4 and I live in Jersey City. My sales guy was Eddie who was super helpful and responsive and he tried to make this out of state purchase very seamless. Everything was ready to go by the time I got to the dealership. May of their cars are out of warranty with some miles on them. But I think they priced it right in my opinion.
If you are buying a car with no manufacture warranty and high miles on it, make sure you know what you are getting into. Do some research and at least know some common problems.

There should be an option for 0 stars. This has been the worst experience purchasing a vehicle I've ever had. It broke down 3 times on the way to MI (where I live); in NY, PA, and OH. The "full inspection" they claim to perform somehow missed that it needed a new battery, alternator, radiator hoses, and leaking A/C lines and rear evaporator. The "excellent" body condition I was told it had was a lie, there are several gouges and scratches covered in nail polish!
The rear sensor is falling out, the passenger door will not latch properly, automatic high beams do not work, and the ignition button was left in the cup holder for me. Every day seems to bring a new issue, and I have yet to drive the vehicle for a month. The management/owner will not return any calls after repeated attempts, and I've been informed by the service employee that they will not help in any way.
I strongly recommend NOT purchasing a vehicle through this dealership. They do not stand behind their vehicles, nor ensure that the vehicles they are selling are safe to drive. With 3 breakdowns within the first few hundred miles, all in very unsafe situations on the highway, I am terrified to drive my children in this vehicle. I am out over $4,000 already within the first month, and can only imagine what next month will bring.
Even though the issue of the A/C not working was told to the dealership on every subsequent breakdown, they refuse to pay for the repair. Buyer beware, there are likely many hidden malfunctions once you drive off of the lot!

I did not buy a car here but we had a very pleasant experience with Amy and Bob! Amy and I spoke about a car I saw online and that I was interested in. She was extremely helpful by phone and by text. She even went to check the condition of the car before I drove out to CT from NJ. I drove out to see a Mini and put down a deposit since we were driving almost two hours to see it.
The car was in decent condition with low miles. My husband checked a few things and it didn't seem to have any major mechanical issues. However, that day I also saw another car that was cosmetically pristine, a year newer, Mini certified and came with a 1.5 year warranty. It was a little lower on price, so I decided to roll with that one instead. Bob was very understanding and immediately refunded my deposit. (I had previously checked with Amy to make sure it was refundable and it was! Refunded to my cc in a day or so.) I saw a beautiful Mercedes on the way out that I almost considered but the Mini was more practical for me. Bob was extremely helpful and never pushy. All in all, we had a great experience and I would certainly return since J&M has an amazing selection of used cars across all price ranges.

Front and back brakes needed within 5 months after being told both were done by salesman as i purchased car. Owner says they weren't all done and didn't need to be changed and was never told that they were being done.when i presented him with the screenshot he just said "oh, he was wrong" scummy people

My husband bought a low mileage 2010 Jeep Liberty 2 years ago. Had it under 30 days and noticed the heat wasn't working. Turned out to be a heater core. Brought it back and they said they fixed it and he even has the paperwork stating that. This would be the third year with having to use heat and its not working again. Has a wet nasty smell inside the car under the front mats.
The crappy extended warranty they suckered us into covers nothing. Not even the diagnosis. BEWARE of GWC Extended warranty. Worst $2k spent. The local mechanic gave me a break on the diagnosis but informed they never replaced heater core like they said. They put a "band aid" on it. I will never buy a car from there again. First time, last time.

I bought my first vehicle on my own back in December and it took 2 weeks to fix a backup camera, they sold me the car with bald tires. I'm young and never bought a car myself so I didn't know what to look for. And to no surprise after the 60 day warranty- the engine starts to burn oil. Every 1,000 miles the oil light turns on. Don't buy a car from here unless you want to get ripped off on a car that PROBABLY has issues with it.

I understand Covid is an issue and social distancing affects everyone in its own way, but the service here was beyond terrible. I waited for hours seeking out a J/M representative to help me find a certain model of car I KNEW they owned as I looked it up online and instead of helping me the man simply claimed the car was not in stock at the moment and that I'd have to "set my standards a bit lower" in regards to their maintenance of keeping the lot stocked with used/newer model cars.
After telling me this before I could even reply he turned his back and walked away. Obviously I left immediately upon seeing him brush off my question like it was nothing and later went to a better dealership where the staff was more than helpful and ultimately lead me to purchasing a car. Great job J/M you lost a potential customer.

I really don't like leaving negative reviews but I was referred to this dealership from a friend. I was told even with bad credit you would get a established loan with a possibly higher interest rate. I was told by the dealer that they could acquire a loan for me based on my credit score and I agreed to the monthly percentage based on my income as a first responder healthcare worker.
I unfortunately ended up Waiting consecutive days while they ran my credit over and over again and it depreciated to an terrible degree. I am not without fault myself my credit is not stellar however I left a deposit and made financial arrangements based on the reassurance that I would be able to purchase a vehicle. I attempted to get a cosigner but after she read the negative reviews on the website she didn't want to sign the agreement.
I Assuming the sale was going through sold my car to a person and even began the process of transferring my insurance. After lengthy days of leaving messages with no response. I am currently now left getting rides and taking Uber's to my job as a healthcare facility bout of town. the car that I wanted is now unattainable my credit is even further sacked and I still have not received the electronica reimbursement of my deposit.
I did not want to believe several of the negative reviews but now I am feeling absolutely foolish for not doing my homework. The only silver lining is I potentially have found a model of vehicle that's three years newer and $4000 cheaper than the price for the one that I originally wanted. So sometimes things fall into a better arrangement. And with what I have saved I should be able to pay out of pocket by mid May.
I do not think they are bad people here I just think it is a sinister industry at times and this place represents the dark desperate side of auto sales.would avoid at any cost. The only thing I'm left with all these rejection letters from creditors and my non-refundable deposit

Hi I had left a message on s.com 1 of the sales rep texted me unsure who it was just stated rep from J&M automotive. I asked if we could do a FaceTime with the car that I was looking at on line, the rep stated that I hope that you are a serious buyer before I do that I am only working with 10% here, not really sure what he meant but you do anything to sell a car especially in these times! In early June I found a car I liked in my price range but during the second test drive noticed the stereo and A/C weren't working. Was promised they would be fixed before I drove off of the lot. A week later I left and everything seemed to be in order- they told me they had installed a new stereo and with the windows down could feel what I thought was cool air coming out of the vents.
I like to drive with the windows down, but once summer really hit and I used the A/C, the air was blowing but not cool. Brought it to my mechanic and they said I needed a new compressor. Within 2 months of buying my car, I had to spend $850 to fix something I was told was already fixed. Which is too bad, because I thought I had had a pleasant car buying experience.

I do not recommend this place to anyone. I got a car from J&M two months ago and on the first week the car was giving me problems with the ignition and it turned out that the spark plugs had oil which meaning that there's a problem with the head. Besides that, there are some cables that are exposed because the cover was melted and now it's giving me electrical problems.
I took it back to the dealer and spoke with everyone starting from the manager to resolve the issues TWICE, they promised that it'll get done and that I was going to get another car to drive until it gets fixed. That never happened. They gave me the run around and told me that there was residue so they just cleaned the spark plugs. They kept lying and at the end they never fixed anything.
I had to take my car to a shop before it got worse. Do not ever get a car from this place unless you want to loose your money. Very unethical but I hope that stuff like this never happens to anyone because it's stressful and not worthy. If you or your family needs a car, please go somewhere else, you will thank me later. I submitted a review on their website but most likely it'll get deleted since all their reviews are 5 stars. Liars

I'm buying my second car from J&M this week. They're fast, accommodating and focused on what the customer needs. Every car is priced below blue book and there is no need for haggling. I dislike having to do this. Sneaky is the short version. They did a quick fix that almost cost me my Allison transmission. Never use radiator hoses for the transmission lines. Also found out nothing else was done as said. No inspection apparently and safety is not their concern. 3 grand later after only 4 months after purchase I'm not happy.
Glad the original shocks (with 100 grand on them) had to be replaced. That's what brought all this to my attention. Even that alone is piss poor. Shocks are to be replaced every 50 thousand. Again an inspection would have caught this. I'm sure it was seen. They just don't care. Don't get your vehicle serviced there. And don't buy from them.

J & M automotive has been in Naugatuck forever. They have an extremely large inventory of used cars. When you drive on the roads of Waterbury you see monikers of J&M on the back of cars after cars after cars. Although I usually buy new cars and haven't bought a car from them, if I were looking for a used car I would seriously consider J&M because of their reputation and because of those who I know who have bought cars there. To sell 200 cars each and every month, they must be doing something right.
